I obtained my bachelor’s and master’s degree in Molecular Life Sciences from the Radboud University in Nijmegen. During my bachelor internship in the Boltje Research Group, I was introduced to carbohydrate chemistry for the first time and became interested in this field. For this reason, I returned in the Boltje Research Group for my first master internship. Under supervision of Sam Moons, I worked on the synthesis of sialic acid biosynthesis inhibitors and verified their inhibitory properties. For my second master internship at Royal Cosun, I stayed in the field of carbohydrate chemistry. Here I worked on the valorisation of pectin from sugar beet pulp under supervision of Dr. Adeline Ranoux and Dr. Harry Raaijmakers.

During those internships, my interest and enthusiasm for the carbohydrate chemistry field grew. In July 2020 I started my PhD in the Boltje Research Group in collaboration with FrieslandCampina. For the next four years, I will be working on the development of new methods to isolate, characterize and synthesize galactooligosaccharides used as nutritional ingredients.
